Where to get Audiobooks for your iPod.

Audiobooks are an excellent source of continuing learning, and there are plenty of places on the internet to get some.

Only about half the population had read even one book in the last year. If you are a typical driver you will be spending between 500-1000 hours every year in your car.

Your iPod can turn the dead time of drive time into productive learning time for you. You can have a tremendous competitive advantage if you just make use of that time to learn something.

In my continuing theme of continuous learning using your iPod, I will cover some of the places you can get audiobooks, audio talks, audio seminars, talk radio and devotional archives.

Sources for Audiobook CDs
The most obvious thing you can do is you can buy audio CDs at your local bookstore or Amazon.

The Teaching Company has an extensive collection of material from math and science to literature and history.

Or you can use a CD rental service like:
Audio to Go or Simply Audio Books.

Another place to check out is your local library. You cannot keep them but you can listen to them and delete them when you are done.

Downloadable Sources
There is, of course, the iTunes Music Store.
iTunes gets its audiobook content from Audible. Audible has four formats, but only three are available for the iPod, but since the one that is left out is only telephone quality, it is no great loss.
Both iTMS and Audible has some free material that you can try out, such as the 9/11 Commission Report and the latest Inaugural Address.

A couple of excellent resources are The Blind Readers' Page and the Radio Free World Audio Book Guide.

I have found that there is a lot of good material in the least likely of places.

My local talk radio station has an archive of one of its shows. As do many talk radio hosts. Check out what your local talk radio stations might have.

Even my old alma mater has an extensive archive of devotionals. University websites are a great place to look for content.

Summary
There is a lot of time available to you to learn more about something that interests you. Googling audio books will return 27,300,000 hits, there are plenty of places out there to get material.

By listening to audiobooks you will expand your knowledge, and knowledge is power. Your iPod can make you more powerful by always having something nearby to learn from.

Keep learning, always.

Don't forget www.itconversations.com! Granted, it's aimed more toward the IT industry, but a lot of the content applies to everyone, and what entrepreneur doesn't need to stay current with the IT industry today anyway.
