Today is St. Rowlings Day, we are not doing to get much done after HP6 gets home so we'll do what we can now.
It is rather funny, I would rather spend time with my child reading a book like HP6 then with any of the "Great Literature" that was forced down my throat in High School.
I am so glad kids like to read Harry Potter, helping them realize that there are good books to read out there is so important. If 80% of college grads never read an entire book again after school that is a terrible thing.
I just never understood why great literature needed to be so terrible. The lessons they taught were life is brutality, trust no-one, anti-life is better then life. The books at school were terrifying, but the books I read at home where encouraging. I love to read books but they need to be uplifting and good.
I read things like Tom Swift and Hardy Boys, Dragonriders of Pern, Asimov, Clarke and many others. I would even wander into the library and grab a random book and read it. Somethings it was good and other times not, but it was always fun to see what it was about.
I wish J.K. Rowlings well, and even more to the children who read her books.
